Ariella's Birth Story

So I realized with all the excitement of the arrival of Ariella that we didnt get to actually TELL the story of the birth, so heres my (Michelle's) version, from what I actually recall. Brett will hopefully post his version as well.

Monday October 5th

So I posted that morning, and had felt a little achy and VERY much suffering from insomnia the night before. That day I had an appointment with the uriologist in Encinitas (about 20 mins from our house) to basically "get to know" him before I could start my testing after the baby (to fix my kidneys). Grandma Myers had a hair appointment at the little salon a block from our house at 2:30pm and I had the Dr appointment at 3 so I said I would go ahead and go by myself to the appointment- we were all lulled into a state of false confidence since we knew when the c-section would happen.

So I left and drove to the Dr's office, a little side note the Drs office was actually at the hospital in Encinitas that we WERE going to have the baby at, but decided against once we found out that we would never have a private room- we are VERY happy we chose to go with the private room option.

While setting in the Dr's office I started feeling a little crampy, and as all pregnant women do when they are close to their due date, I decided to look at my watch to see what time this crampiness was happening. I noted the time, and continued to wait, the crampiness continued and my stomach started feeling a little upset. I kept note of the time and realized after awhile that these "crampiness" feelings were happening about 4 minutes apart. SOOO I thought, hmmm maybe Im in labor? I stepped into the hall and called my OB office, I told the receptionst that I thought I was in labor and the pains were about 4 minutes apart. She said, well we usually like people to go to the hosptial when they are steady for an hour (which I had been waiting in the Dr office for an hour), I informed her that I was having a c-section LOL they quickly got her off the phone to talk to a Dr. She came back on and said, go ahead and get checked out at the hospital. So I went back inside and told the woman at the urologist office that I needed to go because I was having contractions. She said, "oh wait let me see if the Dr can see you first", and tried to call him over, "oh, no, I said, you dont understand Im in labor, I need to go" LOL..That was pretty funny. She gave me back my copay and I was on my way to La Jolla hospital.

I called Brett and told him what was happening, I thought surely, Im not REALLY in labor and didnt want him leaving work for a false alarm. He said he wanted to come be there, but I didnt know yet what was going to happen and told him to wait and see what I found out. I then called grandma and told her what was happening and that I needed to pack!!!!! I had packed everything for Brett for the hospital but had delayed on myself and had NOTHING packed!! lol.. not a good idea. Not to mention I had just found out we needed to do a c-section so what I needed for the hosptial had changed. Grandma was walking back from the hair salon so was almost running back, and Brett was preparing to leave work.

I arrived at La Jolla and they hooked me up to the monitor (weird: the nurse that checked me in was from Kansas and had went to the same little college as me?!!?? strange!) and found out that YES they were contractions and they were coming about 2-4 minutes apart and I was 2 cm dialated. The nurse called the Dr to decide what they wanted to do, I guess they could delay labor for awhile if they wanted too with some shot. I told her I wasnt ready!! LOL so many more things to do in the nursey, and had to stock the pantry, cook, etc etc. She asked if I seriously wanted to wait (yea right! ask any 39 week pregnant woman if they REALLY want to wait??!!) which I said no, if the baby wanted to come then it was time. So the nurse called the doctor and the doctor decided today was the day!!!! Things started happening REALLY fast by then, I called Brett told him what was happening (he was already on his way), called Grandma and started tell her things to pack, where to find them, etc etc. It was madness!!!

My Dr (Dr Zaid), could actually do the c-section if I had it at 6 but since I had eaten something earlier in the day they wanted to wait so I found out Dr Makini, another Dr in the office was going to do it instead. I was prepared for this, so just went with the flow- I was more in shock!! the baby is coming today!!! They checked me into a Labor and Delivery room and Brett and Grandma showed up, things were moving faster and faster!! They wanted to do the surgery at 9:30pm so we had a couple hours to wait- or so we thought. About an hour later Dr Makini came in and said that actually they were going to wait to take me because another woman was about to push. About 20 minutes later she came in and said they were going to take me RIGHT then because and it looked like it may be awhile with the other woman.

YIKES!!

Things moved faster and faster, they got a cute outfit for Brett

And and prepped me, and wheeled me to surgery!! I went in first alone, so they could get everything hooked up. The anasteiologist told me they were going to give me a spinal with no local, aka not numbed up but really it wasnt bad and soon they let Brett back in. He took a picture of the clock as he was waiting:

And by 8:44pm little Ariella had arrived!!! The surgery wasnt so bad, they jerked and pulled me a whole lot, she was REALLY stuck in there but she came out crying strong :) She scored an 8 on her Apgar then a 9 which is GREAT- 10 is the best you can get. Theres more of the hospital story (like how I DEMANDED to see her and ended up out of bed only 4 hours after surgery) but its getting late here so thats all for today :)

Love you all!!
Brett Michelle and little Ariella
Grandma Myers and Papi Ronnie

Hope you enjoy!!
